About the role
Reporting to a Principal, the Manager plays a pivotal role within the firm, partnering close with clients and the internal team to create value and drive improvements for our clients by providing comprehensive advisory services.
In this client-facing leadership role, you will be responsible for managing client relationships, overseeing workflow delivery, and coaching, mentoring, and developing people within your team.
As a Manager, you will balance technical expertise, commercial judgement, and people leadership, contributing to both client success and the ongoing growth of the firm.
Key Responsibilities
The Manager role is a diverse support function with key responsibilities in the following areas:
Accounting Function
- Competent with identifying and managing tax issues such as Division 7A loans, fringe benefits tax, CGT events, SBE and depreciation concessions
- Required to prepare financial statements, activity statements and tax returns for all entity types and individuals
- Required to undertake periodic management reporting, budgeting, forecasting on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis as required
- Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement, providing valuable insights to clients and senior management.
- Assist in the preparation of management reports, financial forecasts, and budgeting processes to support strategic decision-making.
- Provide tax planning advice and identify tax-saving opportunities for clients.
- Stay updated with changes in tax legislation and regulations, ensuring clients are aware of their tax obligations and benefits.
- Stay updated with accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance in financial reporting and accounting practices.
- Assist in the implementation of internal controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and maintain the integrity of financial information.
- Attends and completes either internal or external mandatory technical trainings
Systems & Processes
- Proficient with the use of Xero and other accounting software programs
- Have a good working knowledge of the firm’s business systems and process and with direction, be able to identify the appropriate recourses to apply them
- Ability to improve systems, procedures and initiate corrective actions
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
Client Service and Relationship Management
- Manage a portfolio of clients, serving as the primary point of contact and building strong client relationships based on trust and reliability.
- Understand clients’ specific needs, objectives, and industry dynamics to provide tailored accounting and advisory services.
- Respond to client queries, provide guidance, and address concerns promptly, ensuring exceptional client service delivery.
- Contribute towards bids/ and proposals with the view of engaging new or repeated work
- Independently sourcing and engaging with external network opportunities to build future client pipelines
- Support with talent pipeline engagement opportunities such as involvement in university career days, promoting internal job opportunities amongst network and referring viable candidates
- Assisting in the management of a $600k+ portfolio of fees
Team Supervision and Development
- Supervise and provide guidance to junior accountants, reviewing their work, and providing constructive feedback.
- Coach, mentor and supervise junior staff members by providing timely feedback, supporting with technical training, setting up frequent 1:1’s to identify professional development opportunities and implement personal development plans where appropriate
- Assist in the recruitment and training of new team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Continuously develop and enhance your own technical skills and knowledge through professional development activities.
Who we are after
Essential Criterial
- Fully qualified with a CA or CPA accreditation
- Familiar with accounting software such as Xero, Now Infinity, Practice Ignition, GreatSoft etc.
- 7+ years supervising, leading and mentoring staff
Personal and Technical Skills
- Ability to undertake various tax planning recommendations for clients
- Able to prepare financial statements and tax returns for multiple and complex entities including various trusts and corporate entities.
- Possesses a positive and proactive approach to delivering superior support and commercial advice to clients
- Strong numeracy and analytic skills with the ability to interpret and make sense of data
- Strong time management skills with the ability to be agile with changing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to act with integrity, honest and influence both internal and external stakeholders to build relationships
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently with supervisor and staff
- Ability to coach, mentor and lead staff
