Mid-market M&A in Australia
Welcome to our Dealmakers hub, where you’ll find a summary of findings from our Dealmakers report which launched in February 2022. To make sure you’re across the trends and predictions for M&A this year, enter your details into the form below to access the full report.
2022 is set to be a bumper year for dealmaking on the back of a strong performing 2021 and ongoing high consumer sentiment. The Australian dealmaking environment receives an 80% confidence rating for 2022, with 97% of respondents aiming to source deals in Australia this year.

Growth trajectory shows dealmaking activity should reach, or exceed, 2016 record highs over the next two years. Almost 50% of survey respondents believe dealmaking will peak in the next 12 months, while a third say it will be within the next 24 months.

Increased competition is fuelled by a ‘fear of missing out’ mentality, given the high demand and difficulty in sourcing deals and an inability to secure assets.
Technology, media and telecom continues to shine, while consumer strengthens along with pharmaceuticals, medical and biotech. We also expect business services and energy, mining and utilities to be very active in dealmaking in 2022.

Dealmakers: Mid-market M&A in Australia 2022 was produced in collaboration with Mergermarket, an Acuris company. Pitcher Partners commissioned Mergermarket to canvass the opinions of 60 M&A dealmakers in Australia regarding their expectations for the year. Interviews were carried out from October to November 2021.
