Allan Mortel

Over the course of his career, Allan has advised and resolved complex tax matters ranging from corporate tax, international tax, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) for clients in a range of industries. With a current focus on the asset management and Not-for-Profit sectors, his understanding of these industries allows him to identify and provide tax solutions relevant to the current challenges and environment of these sectors. For investment vehicles in the asset management sector, this includes annual compliance reviews and lodgements through to structuring and other tax advisory services on various issues including Managed Investment Trusts (MIT).

Allan is a member of firm-wide groups that drive discussion and decision-making on taxation and asset management. He works closely with our national network to discuss key profession and industry issues, sharing expertise and resources. His collaborative approach also extends globally across our Baker Tilly (BT) network, where he is part of the BT Tax Committee in the Asia-Pacific region. Connecting with global tax professionals, Allan brings his clients localised tax advice and market knowledge to address their international tax needs.

With a proactive approach, Allan stays in frequent contact with his clients to understand their business in order to optimise their tax position.

Allan’s comprehensive knowledge and experience as a specialist tax advisor extends across a wide range of sectors and industries including investment vehicles such as managed funds and Listed Investment Companies (LICs), local subsidiaries and branches of foreign multinationals, corporate groups, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and property developers. This allows him to bring both commercial insights and technical expertise to serve his clients.

With over 25 years of tax experience, Allan has been with the Sydney firm since 2002 and became a partner in 2007.
