About the role
Under the guidance of and reporting to the Principal, the Analyst plays a critical role in delivering a technical expertise and support in the management and administration of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds.
As an Analyst, you will be responsible for providing value-added support to a portfolio Self-Managed Super Funds across all stages of the SMSF cycle including processing, preparation of financial statements, activity statements, TBAR’ and tax returns, and facilitation of audit reviews. This position requires a strong understanding of SMSF regulations, taxation and compliance along with the ability to analyse complex financial data and ensure accuracy in all financial reporting activities.
Key Responsibilities
The Analyst role is a diverse support function with key responsibilities in the following areas:
Technical Expertise
- Preparation of SMSF Accounts and Annual Returns
- Can handle all parts of a compliance job from start to finish, including
- Sorting through and scanning client source documents
- Processing accounts in superannuation software
- Reconciliation of all SMSF accounts
- Preparation of comprehensive working papers
- Dealing with job queries and liaising with other Pitcher Partners’ teams
- Preparation of document pack and covering letter to be sent to client
- Saving completed files/working papers in document management system
- Preparation of SMSF Activity Statements and TBARs
- Attending to Super Stream compliance
- Registering SMSFs for ESAs
- Attending to rollovers through Super Stream system in BGL Simple Fund 360
- Ensure all SMSF’s under management comply with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular reviews of SMSF deeds and documentation to ensure compliance with current regulations
- Assist clients in optimising tax efficiencies within the bounds of SMSF regulations
- Deliver on 1400 chargeable hours by accurately charging time, meeting budget and productivity targets where agreed on by people leader
- Attends and completes either internal or external mandatory technical trainings
- Assisting in analysing financial transactions, fund performance, and accounting records to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with applicable accounting and superannuation regulation
- Preparing reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting documentation to facilitate accurate accounting treatment and reporting outcomes
- Assisting in identifying accounting issues, compliance risks, and reporting discrepancies, and providing recommendations for resolution where required\
- Maintaining accurate accounting records and applying professional accounting principles in the management of SMSF financial matters
Client Engagement and Relationship Management
- Support clients on their various superannuation matters with the ability to build strong relationship and respond to requests and queries promptly and professionally.
- Building a reputable brand with clients by providing responsive, timely, quality advice and service
- Seek continuous client feedback with the ability to reflect and improve on engagement and service delivery
- Liaising with SMSF Auditors and Dealing with Audit Queries
- Sending completed financials and working papers to the auditor
- Tracking audit queries and providing appropriate answers in a timely manner
- Liaising with Tax Office and Dealing with Tax Office Correspondence
- Phone calls with Tax Office in relation to various issues that might be encountered
- Checking various Tax Office Notices to ensure numbers are correct
- Preparing covering letters to send to clients
Systems & Processes
- Familiarity with BGL Simple Fund 360
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Understanding of cloud software’s or willingness to learn
- Ability to improve system and procedures and initiate corrective actions
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
Who we are after
Essential Criterial
- Holds a Chartered Accountants (CA) or Certified Practicing Accounting (CPA) qualification, or is close to completion
- Strong knowledge of SMSF regulation, Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act and Regulations, and taxation laws.
- Familiar with accounting software such as Xero, BGL Simple Fund 360 Now Infinity, Practice Ignition, GreatSoft ect.
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar professional services role

- Ability to apply specialist knowledge in SMSF across a diverse client base
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Strong numeracy and analytic skills with the ability to interpret and make sense of data
- Strong time management skills with the ability to be agile with changing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work independently with supervisor and staff
- Ability to coach, mentor and lead staff
