Markets rallied during the March Quarter as headline inflation expectations eased adding weight to a potential economic ‘soft landing’.
However, the music did eventually stop (albeit briefly), as the rapid global monetary tightening created some inevitable fractures within the financial system with the failures of Silicon Valley Bank, closely followed by Signature Bank, First Republic Bank and culminating in the failure of the nearly 170-year-old institution Credit Suisse.
The market seemingly shrugged off these concerns largely thanks to the rapid response by Central Banks with sentiment further buoyed by the resilience of world economies in the face of record interest rate increases and the prospects of the positive impact of a Chinese economic reopening.
