Jason Van Klaveren

Meet Jason Van Klaveren, a corporate finance expert and gym enthusiast who began his journey with Pitcher Partners as a graduate in 2018.

Keeping up the extra-curriculars

Graduating university with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting and finance, set the stage for Jason’s career in professional services.

After developing his customer service skills working in the retail industry throughout university, Jason’s professional journey commenced in 2018, when he joined the Business Advisory and Assurance team at Pitcher Partners Sydney.

In the early stages of his career, Jason gained valuable experience working across a diverse range of clients within the audit division, providing him opportunities to work across Sydney and travel interstate. Overtime, Jason found that he was drawn to the financial services sector, particularly working with listed investment companies.

“I really value my experience working with the audit team at the start of my career. Audit gave me broad exposure to so many interesting clients and really allowed me to build a solid foundation around my accounting knowledge”.

During this time, he was able to find immense satisfaction in the supportive environment at Pitcher Partners. He enjoyed the opportunities to collaborate with individuals of varying seniority and life experiences, not only to build professional connections, but also to create genuine friendships.

After four years in audit and the completion of his CA (Chartered Accountant) qualification, Jason was given the opportunity to transition into the Corporate Finance team. His ability to progress through various roles and land where he is today is one of his proudest achievements and a testament to his hard work and determination.

“If you continue to work hard, whether you know where you’re going or not, it doesn’t matter, the opportunities will come your way.”

Jason felt extremely supported through the transition to his new role and was able to leverage his prior audit experience while embracing the new daily challenges.

“I‘ve really enjoyed my switch to the Corporate Finance team. Every day presents a new set of technical challenges, and no two engagements are ever the same”.

For Jason, maintaining a structured schedule is paramount to getting through the week, and he emphasises his commitment to regular exercise, aiming for 4-5 workouts a week. The gym is a vital component of his routine, which not only supports his physical health, but provides the mental reset needed after a full day staring at the computer.

If he was to give any advice to someone beginning their career, Jason would say that he firmly believes in dedicating at least 2-3 years to thoroughly learn from each role and also to making the time to take care of your physical and mental wellbeing.
