25 Years

Lighting the way for our clients since 1991.

Proud past // Bright future

It all started in 1991

When people decided that things needed to change.

That day in 1991.

Pitcher Partners was the first new accounting and advisory practice to be established in more than 20 years in Australia.

November 1991 and Australia was in the middle of “the recession we had to have”. High interest rates, high unemployment and volatile stock and property markets.

Despite this, the partners and staff of Pitcher Partners went out on their own to form Australia’s first new financial services practice in over 20 years.

Our Mission and Values.

Specialise in servicing the middle market and be recognised as the leading firm servicing this market.

A firm whose entire culture is based on caring for clients and earning their trust.

A firm which emphasises a strong advisory involvement with its clients, providing both business and specialist advice of the highest standard.

A firm whose culture is to care for its people on an individual basis and provide them with great careers.

Who was there?

A group of fourteen partners.

Leaders of the Private Business Services Division of KPMG – Ron Pitcher and Tim Jonas along with 12 fellow partners and 142 staff made the brave move.

In the first year and despite the tough times, the firm lost no clients, won many others and had billings in excess of $14 million.

TIMELINE

Tim Jonas

Tim Jonas is appointed Managing Partner

Tim Jonas took responsibility for the day to day management of the firm, as well as working with clients. From the beginning the partners decided that they wanted to run the firm as genuine owners, and Tim is responsible for establishing many of the inclusive and collaborative practices such as monthly full partner meetings and annual retreats that still exist today.

Pitcher Partners opens its doors

18 November 1991 – the new firm opens its doors – the departure from KPMG was amicable and so an agreement was made to initially sub-lease our existing premises at 161 Collins Street. Clients were contacted and given the choice of whether or not to go with the new firm. All graduates were offered positions within the new firm – by and large, most chose to go with Pitcher Partners.

“This is a great firm. It is driven by being clear on our values and vision of where we want the business to go and how we deal with our clients and our people.”

The merger of two long standing and established practices in Sydney, A. S White and Young Barnsdall and Joye results in Pitcher Partners Sydney joining the network.
Pitcher Partners Perth, previously Norgard Clohesy, joins the network in 2004, bringing with it 20 years’ experience.

In 2005 just 14 years after we were formed, Pitcher Partners won the inaugural BRW Best Large Accounting Firm category in the BRW Accounting firm of the Year Awards.

This was an enormous accolade for the firm as it is a client choice award. We have subsequently won this award again (albeit in the mid size category) and made the finals several times, demonstrating why our commitment to client service is paramount.

Pitcher Partners Melbourne moves into its own building

In June 2006, Pitcher Partners moved to 15 William Street, Mebourne. Its own building, signifying the remarkable growth and strength the firm had achieved and was continuing to achieve. The night the sign was lit for the first time on top of our building is one many of us will never forget.

"I am a man not usually given to overt displays of emotion but when the lights were turned on at the new building, I remember hugging Tim Jonas. I normally think that pride is self-indulgent, but we were all proud to achieve that."

PPIEI Formed

One consistent characteristic we find in our clients is their entrepreneurial approach to life and business. In recognising the need to be at the forefront providing the best service possible to our clients, and to have staff with the right skills and mindset to advise them, we established the Pitcher Partners Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

PPIEI gives our future leaders, both within the firm and from our client and referrer base, the theory, the skills and the qualifications to take their entrepreneurial spirit to the next level.

John Brazzale is appointed Managing Partner

John Brazzale, Managing Partner

The firm’s third managing partner is John Brazzale and he sees the difference at Pitcher Partners as our client focus. Our competitors, particularly in the mid tier have had a tumultuous time with mergers, acquisitions and internal disputes. Pitcher Partners' client first approach means we can “influence regulatory decisions and outcomes and make regulators aware of the costs of compliance for the middle market. We are bringing the coalface to regulators, showing how their thinking can impact on commercial issues for our clients.”

Pitcher Partners opens in South East Melbourne

In 2013 after much consideration, Pitcher Partners Melbourne opened a second office in the burgeoning South East region. The firm recognised the huge and untapped opportunities, particularly in the manufacturing space, for a major accounting firm. This full service office has quickly became a major contributor to the business conversation in the region and a sophisticated offering to businesses who have outgrown their existing professional services advisors.

Testimonials

This is what some of our clients say!

Pitchers have grown substantially over the years, but they have managed to remain a very personal business. If I need help, it is all hands on deck. Quite simply, Pitchers are there when we need them. I could not have asked for anything more.

Tony Pace, Chairman, SPS Corporation Pty Ltd.

The commercial and technical insights, and the challenge that they bring to our organization are a critical component in our decision-making process.

Peter Cartsidimas, Chief Financial Officer, PFD Food Services Pty Ltd.

Mainly it is about the people, they are great, easy to deal with and willing and capable of doing more than they are hired for.

Alastair Phillips, Head of Insurance, Risk & Compliance // Hydro Tasmania

We have been involved with Pitcher Partners for a long time, they are very interested in what we do and have helped us grow our business. They all know their stuff. In fact it is so good that we have built products with them.
