Melbourne

Since 1991 Pitcher Partners Melbourne has grown to become the leader in our market and the fifth largest Melbourne-based accounting firm with 45 partners and more than 600 professional and support staff across two locations in Melbourne's CBD and the South East region of Victoria. We specialise in providing services to family controlled, privately owned and small public businesses, as well as high net worth individuals and public sector organisations. Our clients require high technical standards matched with a personal understanding and involvement in their affairs.

Pitcher Partners was established in Melbourne in 1991 and it has since experienced exceptional growth and success. What was predominantly an accounting-focused firm based in Melbourne, is now an independent association of firms across Australia.

Pitcher Partners Melbourne specialises in providing services to family-controlled, privately owned and small public businesses, as well as high-net-worth individuals, international businesses, the public sector and not-for-profit organisations.

With 49 partners and over 800 people, we have the resources and depth of expertise of a major firm, but with a smaller firm feel.

Our two Melbourne offices – in the CBD and South East – are readily accessible and conveniently located, allowing us to better service our clients.

Our story

When Pitcher Partners was formed on 18 November 1991, it was the first new financial services practice to be established in Australia for over 20 years. For some, the mantra had been to merge, thereby increasing in size. Hungerfords, whose people formed the majority of the new firm of Pitcher Partners, had done this when it first merged with Peat Marwick in 1987.

Leaders of the Private Business Services division, Ron Pitcher and Tim Jonas spearheaded the restlessness of their close colleagues in KPMG and proposed taking much of the division to set up an independent firm to continue to serve their clients in the middle market. Having worked together for many years, the two along with their team, had a passionate commitment to the role of the accountant in a broader sense - as an advisor, facilitator and negotiator on behalf of the client. Fourteen committed partners and 142 staff formed the new firm. Their goal was tough: economic recession, high-interest rates and unemployment, stock market and property crashes. The new firm, however, lost no clients, won others, and in its first year was immediately successful.
