Matthew Blair

Operations Analyst

Markets enthusiast and team player

Growing up, Matthew was a team player. From the footy ground to the Surf Lifesaving club, he enjoyed forging new connections and pursuing shared goals. For Matt, working in a collaborative environment with a supportive team was a key factor when selecting a workplace.

Commencing his career journey as a vacationer in 2017Matt’s aptitude and drive led him to secure a full-time graduate position in Pitcher Partners’ Risk Services division, before transitioning into a role in Investment Advisory. Key to Matt’s success has been his ability to build a community around him, forming strong relationships with his managers and peers.

Team spirit

Reflecting on his journey to-date, Matt acknowledges the role of his graduate cohort in shaping his success in his first professional role. “We started our respective journeys together and remain closely connected as our careers grow. The shared experience has been invaluable.

Amongst his most memorable experiences at Pitcher Partners is the National Graduate Induction Program (NGIP) – an immersive three-day learning program designed to introduce graduates to firms’ culture and values.

Additionally, Matt fondly recounts the many firm social activities and events, including the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Football Day match, but also the many occasions spent in group-study sessions while undertaking the CTA1 Foundations certification – a program designed to expose emerging professionals to the complexities of Australia’s tax landscape.

Rewarding work

While Matt enjoys the social interaction of the workplace, he’s also passionate about the work and currently enjoys learning everything he can about investments, which is unsurprising given his Undergraduate degree in Finance and Commerce. “What really interests me is the constant movement of the market, seeing the numbers change and watching stocks grow.”

The work we do matters to clients, so expectations are high. But, the partners and managers acknowledge and respect our contribution, and we’re recognised for that.”
