Team player and career professional
Flexible working and a supportive environment meant Brooke could pursue a career in the accounting profession, while studying at the same time.
Working and studying simultanesously gave Brooke the edge over her university peers. She was able to apply concepts she had learnt at university almost immediately to real-life scenarios, often encountering them in the workplace before reading about them in text books. “Concepts were easy to apply, I learned so much at the start,” she says.

Some years on, Brooke has continued to work and study, recently completing the Chartered Accountant (CA) program. “I am proud of having completed my degree and CA while working at the same time. It was challenging but I think it helped me develop and finesse my time management skills”.
How did she do it? “Dedication, commitment and a diary!” she jokes.
Achieving balance with flexibility
Brooke credits part of her success to the support from her colleagues, managers and partners: “I am fortunate to work with such a nurturing team. Whether it’s been help with quizzes or discussing day to day work challenges, I have never been afraid to ask for help. Everyone is very approachable and friendly”.
The firm’s policies for professional development allowed Brooke to take time off for exams and study. “The team was really supportive too - they helped me manage workloads around exams and organised study sessions with someone who had completed the CA program. It is such a nurturing environment with a passionate culture for learning”.
Brooke works within the Pharmacy division of Pitcher Partners Brisbane, helping businesses to grow and improve profitability. She enjoys working with complex stakeholders including clients with head groups - “those with numerous entities add greater complexity to the job. I like the challenge – it keeps me on my toes”.
A team environment
As for her team, Brooke says that despite the large number of personnel, everyone is very close. “We are a big team, with a big family feel. We have an ‘open-door policy’ and I work closely with different managers and partners to deliver work”. Brooke believes the flexible work arrangements have positively impacted productivity, with “a real focus on work-life balance”.
Ongoing feedback from managers and partners has helped Brooke set goals and stay on track to achieve them. “We have regular catch-ups designed to help me improve, with support and encouragement to have a go at things I may not have done before”.
Brooke is still working out what her future looks like, but her role provides exposure to a variety of new opportunities to help her find and nurture her passions. “The firm makes sure I have all the tools I need, and it does what it can to support me”.
