Alex Marchione

Client Director

Mentor and advisory expert

As a Pitcher Partners stalwart, Alex Marchione has seen it all. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, he is a highly engaged client director who is constantly learning and adapting. Alex lives by the motto: “The day we stop learning is the day we should hang up our boots”.

Alex is not afraid to challenge boundaries and expectations, being well-aware that in today’s world, business standards are evolving. His first big lesson in upheaval came when he migrated to Pitcher Partners during its split from KPMG in 1991. At the time, Alex was nervous about the longevity of a new firm established in the throes of a recession. But he witnessed the risk pay off, and has seen Pitcher Partners grow into a well-known and successful network of firms in the 27 years since.

Alex has grown with the firm and honed his skills in auditing, accounting and tax, developing a particular penchant for accounting and advisory services. It’s the people and clients Pitcher Partners attracts and retains that has kept Alex committed to the firm and its mission. “We have a fantastic culture and experienced people with great intellect and work ethic. The people have so much to offer, and there is a lot of respect among the varied demographic at Pitcher Partners”.

Alex admires the way in which the firm invests in its staff. Pitcher Partners sponsored his Graduate Diploma of Entrepreneurship undertaken through its International Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) program operated in conjunction with Swinburne University of Technology. Alex is able to apply the learnings from these programs to his daily work, with direct benefits to client outcomes. He maintains a healthy work-life balance, which is based on trust and accountability and allows for time with his wife and three sons, and their respective sporting and artistic pursuits. Alex was able to oversee renovation works to his house whilst working from home as required and can always rely on Skype and other connective technology provided to each employee, to get the work done.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys spending time at his holiday home, playing futsal and drinking Italian-style barista coffee. He can fully appreciate these simple pleasures through the freedom that a collaborative, rather than competitive, work environment affords. Asked about his interest in becoming a partner after 13 years as a client director, he says: “Not every mountaineer wants to climb the highest mountain. I’m surrounded by fantastic staff and inspiring mentors and love being a client director.”

Pitcher Partners is made up of a broad range of people from diverse beginnings. Meet all of our career ambassadors and read their personal journeys of success here.
