A look into the future business relationship between China and Australia.
Last night our Melbourne firm, in conjunction with the Australia China Business Council and the Fred Hollows Foundation, hosted a fireside discussion between Dr Geoff Raby and the Hon John Brumby on the topic of the next 10 years in China.
As Australian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Dr Geoff Raby led Australia’s diplomatic mission between 2007 and 2011. Since resigning from the foreign service Dr Raby has established his own advisory firm in Beijing that supports Australian and Chinese businesses and government clients.
During his time as Victorian Premier and Treasurer, John Brumby forged closer links with China and Hong Kong, releasing Victoria’s first ever China strategy, opening new trade and investment offices in Nanjing and Shanghai, and officially welcoming then-Vice President Xi Jinping to Melbourne in 2010. John Brumby is the current President of the Australia China Business Council.
During the course of the fireside chat and Q&A, John Brumby and Geoff Raby covered a range of topics including trade, growth, urbanisation, access to healthcare, the civil sector, and China’s new ‘One Belt/One Road’ initiative.
