About the team

Our dynamic Tax Advisory practice is a team of legislative experts, together, covering the complete tax spectrum. With a focus on clients in the middle-market, the team has the opportunity to directly engage with business owners and key stakeholders, delivering impactful solutions. We’re focused on outcomes for clients, not internal box ticking exercises, team members are empowered to challenge the status quo and find a way to make things happen to add real value to our clients’ businesses.

The State Taxes team operates as a cohesive group within the broader Tax Advisory practice. We truly believe our one firm approach achieves the best outcomes for clients, so you’re encouraged to collaborate across practice teams to find solutions. 

About the role

As a Senior Manager or Client Director in the State Taxes team of our Tax Advisory practice, you will provide technical and commercially focused advice to a diverse range of clients across all states and territories of Australia, predominantly centred on stamp duty, land tax and windfall gains tax.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing technically accurate, commercially focused and tailored advice and solutions to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Preparing private ruling applications, objections correspondence, lodgements and relief applications
  • Handling investigations and other compliance activities undertaken by various revenue offices and dealing with disputes with revenue offices
  • Building and managing client relationships and collaborating with internal stakeholders
  • Active involvement with the delivery of internal and external training and business development initiatives

Who we’re after

Here are the some of the key qualifications, skills and personal attributes we’re looking for. If you tick most of the boxes, but not all that’s ok! We’d still love for you to apply. 

  • Law and/or accounting degree, with experience in state taxes (i.e. stamp duty, land tax, windfall gains tax), or in a different area which requires interpretation of legislation.
  • You are commercially focused, you think strategically, and can work either work autonomously or collaboratively in a team.
  • You have strong legislative interpretation skills and can craft well written, accurate and practical pieces of advice.
