About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Audit Supervisor to join our team. As an Audit Supervisor, you will bring your commercial focus to our clients and team.  Reporting to the Audit Partner(s), you will be responsible for audit engagement, supervising audit staff during engagement and ensuring documentation in the audit files meets internal quality and Australian Audit Standards. In this role, effective project management skills and organisational skills are essential. 

The Audit Supervisor must be able to effectively supervise and coach junior audit staff, review work papers of other team members and also contribute toward a positive and supportive audit team culture. Key outcomes must be achieved to a high standard, both technical accounting/ audit and client relationship management.

This is a permanent full-time role, Monday to Friday, based in the Brisbane CBD office. The successful candidate will be required to travel to clients which may involve weekly or fortnightly stays.

The successful candidate will be required to work from the Brisbane, Queensland office (this is not a remote working role). For international applicants, we will assist the right person with relocation expenses.

Key responsibilities

  • Design of audit programs in response of matters identified in the planning section, including tests of control, analytical procedures and substantive audit procedures
  • Prepare and plan section of audit files, including assessing the nature and environment as well as the control environment of the audit client and identifying audit risks
  • Prepare detailed work budgets for audit engagements
  • Communicate with business owners as well as the internal accounting staff to ensure delivery of exceptional client service
  • Listen effectively and transmit information accurately and understandably and actively seek feedback
  • Provide timely and accurate information on critical issues
  • Ensure that regular, consistent communication takes place within area of responsibility
  • Make clear and convincing oral presentations (to individuals and groups) that achieve their purpose
  • Collaborate with the client to identify critical project outcomes, work products, barriers to success and changes in expectations or scope
  • Quality control of all work papers, documentation and correspondence produced by the work team
  • Review productivity levels and write offs
  • Explore new applications or enhancements with appropriate IT staff to assist staff in carrying out responsibilities and to provide better services to customers
  • Use efficient and cost-effective approaches to integrate technology into the workplace and improve program effectiveness
  • Monitor work in progress to ensure it is maintained at an acceptable level
  • Identify additional or surplus staff needs, having regard to scheduling requirements and capacity models
  • Take full responsibility in applying relevant principles, practices and techniques, independently
  • Supervise, develop and train engagement teams on engagements, providing technical advice & insight
  • Delegate responsibilities providing support, feedback and coaching to achieve performance goals
  • Complete performance reviews on time and consolidates feedback with the individual for improvements and praises to be effectively and positively communicated
  • Preparation of financial statements and audit reports under relevant regulations
  • Review of client financial reports in respect of compliance with the applicable accounting framework and accurate compilation based on audited/reviewed balances and transactions

Relevant skills

As an ideal candidate, you will have a Commerce or Business degree majoring in Accounting, CA/CPA qualified. With at least 4 years’ experience as an External Auditor with a mid-tier or top-tier audit firm, you will have:

  • Demonstrated commercial and client focus
  • Exceptional client skills, including building authentic relationships and proactively managing client expectations throughout the assurance engagement
  • Established assurance/audit skills and an understanding of audit techniques and methods
  • An understanding of IFRS or Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), Australian Auditing Standards (ASA) and relevant legislation applicable to assurance engagements
  • Refined ability to manage multiple deadlines with flexibility where client and team needs shift
  • Ability to lead, develop and manage the workflow of others
  • Established assurance/audit skills and an understanding of audit techniques and methods
  • Continually strives for improvement in expertise thought leadership through professional development opportunities
  • Demonstrate broad, in-depth, and up-to-date knowledge of pertinent fields and awareness of current technology
  • Understanding of profitability measures in business practices and policies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically in relation to Microsoft Office Packages
  • Experience using Caseware Working Papers
  • Passion to develop, coach and lead others

The base salary for this role starts at $97,000 + superannuation + bonus incentives.
