Structural changes
From July 1, several superannuation thresholds have been indexed. This may allow investors to make further contributions and/or transfer larger amounts into tax free pensions. Moreover, the standard employer contributions to super have increased from 11.5% to 12%, which may necessitate adjustments to salary sacrifice arrangements. Additionally, Labor’s emphatic election win grants them control over parliament, likely resulting in the passage of Division 296, an additional tax on member accounts with over $3 million.
