Rhiannon Clews

Meet Rhiannon Clews, who started with Pitcher Partners in a graduate program and is celebrating 10 years with the Perth firm.

A career worth celebrating

As we take the time to recognise International Women’s Day, it’s time to bring some of the incredible women who work as part of the Pitcher Partners network into the spotlight.

Starting as a graduate in the tax team and having since worked her way to senior manager, Rhiannon Clews of Pitcher Partners Perth has built a career well worth celebrating.

Having recently celebrated 10 years with the Perth firm, Rhiannon reflects that the culture, the national network, the clients, the variety of work and the “big firm” capabilities with a smaller firm feel are what initially attracted her to pursue the Pitcher Partners graduate program.

Many of these aspects are what she continues to love about her role, describing her team and the culture as ‘friendly, fun, collaborative and inclusive.’

“The senior staff, all the way up to executive director level, are accessible and extremely generous with their time,” says Rhiannon.

“We work hard, we come together to deliver the best service we can, and we have a bit (or a lot) of banter along the way. People are often shocked that many of us at Pitcher Partners Perth hang out socially outside of work hours. But we genuinely enjoy each other’s company. I couldn’t imagine not having that. I was recognised for 10 years with the firm recently, along with two of my colleagues who started as graduates at the same time, so that speaks volumes about the firm culture. I’ve been both supported and inspired to challenge myself by these teams my entire career and it has helped me grow exponentially into a professional I can be proud of.”

A respected and talented tax expert who is committed to contributing to the industry, Rhiannon’s career has evolved in several ways since her graduate days.

“I started with data entry, preparing basic financials and tax returns, and doing whatever my managers needed, and now I am responsible for managing, mentoring, and training a team of junior accountants, helping guide them, give them the confidence to take on complex files and truly realise their potential,” explains Rhiannon.

“My personal workload is a lot more varied, from due diligence which I really enjoy, to family law matters (both litigious and collaborative). I present technical lectures at industry events and have even had the opportunity to travel to Bali to present at a law conference.”

Care is one of the Pitcher Partners core values, and many of Rhiannon’s career highlights centre around the lasting client relationships she has been able to build during her time with the Perth firm.

“There are some clients I’ve been working with since I started as a graduate, and I still work with to this day,” she says.

“We build genuine relationships with real people and I love witnessing these journeys. It makes me so excited to see my clients growing, succeeding, and doing awesome things! From helping with business accounting to watching a business grow to be listed on the ASX – and helping with that process – is a highlight for me. I was able to experience an incredible variety of work in the process.”

Working for a firm that genuinely aims to make careers personal, Rhiannon proudly attributes a healthy work-life balance to helping her be where she is today.

“I’ve always been encouraged to challenge myself, and seek experiences that will help me grow, while having the space to prioritise family time and prioritising self-care when I need it. My good work life balance and flexible working arrangements are factors which I believe have meant I can maintain good mental health and continue to thrive both personally and professionally.”
