Matthew Wilson

Partner, Melbourne

Matthew is recognised Australia-wide as an expert in commercial and financial advice for the transport industry. He works directly with transport organisations, and also supports government in their procurement negotiations for road, train, bus, telco and emergency services projects. With a deep understanding of managing risk while delivering value through ideal technical and legal structures, Matthew is the go-to advisor for clients navigating complex or difficult scenarios.

In particular, Matthew has worked closely with the bus industry for over 30 years. He regularly presents at conferences, works closely with their associations, or helps when taking a combined approach to negotiating with government. He represents the majority of transport operators and associations in relation to their financial structures and long-term infrastructure contracts with various State Government departments.

Matthew also provides advice for the Emergency Services Sector, including developing long term financial plans, advising on capital management and working on telecommunications projects such as the MDN Continuity Services Project and the ACMA Compliance Project –Managed Device Service.

There is a strong cultural alignment between Pitcher Partners and the organisations Matthew specialises in working with. All are driven by an outcome motive, rather than economic return, for their business, staff and communities. In this context, Matthew has been able to build trusting and enduring relationships. He is often considered ‘one of the team’ and is known for rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck in side by side with organisations to get the work done.

Matthew started as a graduate at Pitcher Partners in 1997. He worked in the UK for a number of years with Government Departments, delivering major financial transformation projects including the UK Cabinet Office, the Department of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Public Guardianship Office. He returned to Pitcher Partners in 2007, and became Partner in 2017 with a vision to grow beyond his own professional development and commit to the long-term success of the firm.
