Pitcher Partners Brisbane Volunteer Day

June 20, 2019

On Friday 21 June 2019, Pitcher Partners Brisbane will hold its firm-wide ‘Year-End Technical Training Extravaganza’ (YETTE) day. Held annually, the event is an opportunity for all 140 personnel to take time away from busy schedules helping clients to focus on professional and personal development.

This year, the team is dedicating the day to supporting a range of local community initiatives including AEIOU Foundation, an organisation dedicated to supporting children with autism; The Pyjama Foundation, which provides mentoring and learning support to foster children; and, The Salvation Army, which supports the community in a variety of ways.

Behind the scenes

Catch up on all the action from the Brisbane Volunteer Day, by jumping over to our Pitcher Partners Instagram on Monday 24 June, where we will showcase all the wonderful work the team undertakes.

History of YETTE

Commencing as a technical training day in 1985 when the firm comprised just 20 personnel, the focus has evolved to provide a hands-on opportunity for our people to unite as a team, away from formal roles and day-to-day activities.

About Volunteer Day

On Volunteer Day, 140 personnel will be divided into groups of between 10 and 60 personnel and travel to one of seven locations across Brisbane and Ipswich to participate in volunteering activities, regrouping later in the day as a whole team to share and reflect on their experience and learnings.

“YETTE is an integral part of the firm’s culture and is something that we all look forward to. It offers an opportunity to connect with people across the firm in a non-office environment, working in teams to achieve a common goal. I think it speaks volumes about the firm’s genuine desire to make a positive difference within our community that for this year’s YETTE, each team will be volunteering with a local charity. It’s been brilliant to see everyone being so excited about the format of the day, and the chance to give back to the community and make a positive change.”

“Participating in the volunteer day provides an opportunity to give back to the community by helping various charities make a difference. It also allows us to get to know and work with colleagues from other teams and divisions outside the office.”

Manager, Tax
Pitcher Partners Brisbane

“I have been part of the firm for over 10 years and YETTE is one of the most highly anticipated events among staff. Each YETTE is different but we always meet members of the firm we don’t work with daily. This year is the first time we are participating in a volunteer day. It’s a great idea because, as a team, we can give back to the community.”

About the charities

Pitcher Partners has elected to support a range of charities and initiatives close to the hearts of our people.

AEIOU Foundation for Children with Autism

“There are many ways to give as part of organisational corporate social responsibility, more recently through corporate volunteering. The Pitcher Partners initiative will see our Nathan centre benefit from a wonderful team of volunteers and we are so grateful to be chosen.”

Karen Descovich, Fundraising Manager - AEIOU Foundation

AEIOU’s purpose is to provide life-changing early intervention to children with autism. Established in 2015, AEIOU is a profit-for-purpose organisation that delivers high-quality therapy and care to affected individuals. Its family-centred program meets the Guidelines for Good Practice (Roberts & Prior 2012) and supports children with autism to develop essential life skills, independence and confidence while championing for inclusion. AEIOU is an approved NDIS provider and supports families transitioning to the new funding scheme.

Pyjama Foundation

“I am always so humbled by the commitment of corporates like Pitcher Partners, donating their valuable time to support our operations. Without this generosity, we couldn’t possibly achieve the work we have throughout the years supporting more than 1,400 children in the foster care system.”

Bronwyn Sheehan, Founder and CEO - Pyjama Foundation

The Pyjama Foundation has a learning-based mentoring program called the Love of Learning Program, which involves matching one adult with one child. The Foundation screens and trains volunteers, called ‘Pyjama Angels’, who are matched with a child in foster care to undertake weekly visits of up to 1.5 hours to read books aloud, play educational games and work on the foster child’s numeracy skills. The volunteers help children develop their learning skills and, perhaps more importantly, nurture the child to feel valued as an individual, with some volunteers working with the same child for more than a decade.

Since inception 14 years ago, The Pyjama Foundation has grown nationally, inspiring new volunteers, or ‘Pyjama Angels’, transforming the lives of children in care through literacy, numeracy and mentoring. In 2019, more than 1,300 children in care are involved in the Love of Learning Program.

The Salvation Army

"The Salvation Army is thrilled to enjoy the ongoing support of Pitcher Partners, and the activities happening on Friday only add to the depth of our relationship. Pitcher Partners will be volunteering at five different Salvation Army services across Brisbane and this collaboration will make a huge difference for the people we support each day."

Simon Gregory, Public Relations Secretary Queensland - The Salvation Army Australia

The Salvation Army Australia is a national Christian movement, united by faith and giving hope where it's needed most. Across the country it is engaged with every demographic and every age group. It is active in big cities, country towns and rural communities. It is involved in national issues with volunteers found on the ground day and night, bringing hope wherever there is hardship or injustice.
